internet connection issues

i know this has nothing to do directly with the xbox 360 but its really startin to piss me off. i have a great connection till about one day every few weeks where my conncetion will just be unplayable. it will sign me in but playin cod is not an option. sometimes its a good thing give me some time on single player but i was just wondering if theres anything i can do other than contact my internet provider
